About Delete PDF Pages
This tool removes pages from a PDF by number. Choose the file, type a list such as 2, 5-7, and it builds a new PDF that leaves out pages 2, 5, 6 and 7, with every other page in its original order. On a 10-page document that list gives a 6-page file. A second option flips the list: Keep only these pages deletes everything you did not name. The result panel shows the original page count, how many pages were deleted and how many remain, so a wrong number is easy to spot before you download. There are no page thumbnails here, so check the page numbers in your PDF reader first. Files up to 40 MB are accepted.
Page list syntax: what you can type in the Pages box
Entries are separated by commas (semicolons also work). Spaces are ignored.
| You type | Meaning | Pages removed from a 10-page PDF |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | A single page | 4 |
| 2, 5-7 | A page plus a range | 2, 5, 6, 7 |
| 9- | Page 9 to the end | 9, 10 |
| last | The final page | 10 |
| 3-last | Page 3 to the end | 3 to 10 |
| 7-6 | A reversed range, read as 6-7 | 6, 7 |
| 3, 3, 1-3 | Repeats are counted once | 1, 2, 3 |
| 12 | A page that does not exist | None: the tool reports that page 12 does not exist |
| 1-10 | Every page | None: the tool refuses to produce an empty file |
Page numbers are positions in the file, counting the first sheet as 1. Printed labels such as iii or A-2 are ignored.
Worked examples on a 10-page PDF
Each result below is what the Result panel and the What changed table show for a 10-page file.
Delete a few pages
Pages: 2, 5-7. Option: Delete these pages
Original pages 10, Pages deleted 4, Pages remaining 6. Deleted: 2, 5-7. Kept: 1, 3-4, 8-10.
Keep only a few pages
Pages: 2, 5-7. Option: Keep only these pages (delete the rest)
Original pages 10, Pages deleted 6, Pages remaining 4. Deleted: 1, 3-4, 8-10. Kept: 2, 5-7.
Cut the last two pages
Pages: 9-. Option: Delete these pages
Original pages 10, Pages deleted 2, Pages remaining 8.
Keep two pages, typed out of order
Pages: 7, 2. Option: Keep only these pages (delete the rest)
A 2-page PDF with page 2 first and page 7 second. Kept pages always stay in document order.
To put page 7 before page 2, use the PDF Splitter instead, which follows the order you type.
A page number that is too high
Pages: 12. Option: Delete these pages
No file is produced. The message reads: Page 12 does not exist: this PDF has 10 pages (numbered 1 to 10).
Delete pages, keep pages or split: which to use
| You want to | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Drop a few pages from a long document | This tool, Delete these pages | You name only the pages that go, not the dozens that stay |
| Pull a short section out of a long document | This tool, Keep only these pages | You name the pages that stay; order is preserved |
| Extract pages in a new order, such as 5, 1-3 | PDF Splitter | Its output follows the order you type, so it can also rearrange |
| Join the trimmed file to another PDF | PDF Merger | Run it after deleting, on the downloaded result |
| Fix page numbers that no longer match after deleting | Add Page Numbers to PDF | Stamps fresh numbers on the pages that remain |
Are deleted pages really gone from the file?
Yes. The tool does not hide or unlink the pages you remove. It creates a new, empty PDF and copies in only the pages you are keeping, together with the fonts and images those pages use. The content of a deleted page is never written to the new file, so it cannot be recovered from the download.
This matters because some PDF editors save changes by appending to the old file, which leaves the removed page's data in place where recovery tools can find it. If you are deleting a page because it contains something private, a full rewrite like this one is what you want. Keep in mind that the original file on your device is untouched, so delete that copy yourself if it should not exist.
The document properties (title, author, subject, keywords, creator and creation date) are carried over to the new file. The producer and modified date are updated to reflect that the file was rewritten.
What this page remover does not do
- No page thumbnails: you select pages by number, so open the PDF in a reader first to see which numbers you need.
- No automatic blank page detection: to remove blank pages, find their numbers and type them in.
- Bookmarks (the outline panel), attachments and fillable form behaviour are not carried over, and a link that jumped to another page may stop working. Printed content, text and images on the kept pages are unchanged.
- Encrypted PDFs are rejected with a clear message. That includes files that open without a password but carry editing restrictions. Unlock the file in a PDF reader first.
- Files larger than 40 MB are not accepted.
- The remaining pages are not recompressed, so image quality and selectable text stay exactly as they were.
How to use it
- 1
Click PDF file and choose the document. It is read by your browser, not sent anywhere.
- 2
In Pages, type the page numbers and ranges separated by commas, for example 2, 5-7. Numbers start at 1 for the first sheet in the file.
- 3
Leave What to do with these pages on Delete these pages, or switch to Keep only these pages (delete the rest).
- 4
Check Original pages, Pages deleted and Pages remaining in the Result panel, and the What changed table listing which page numbers went and which stayed.
- 5
Download the result. It is saved under the original name with -pages-removed added, and your original file is not modified.
